sozettaslow: (Sora [Immune to emo])

This is a future fic based off of the future kids in the Kingdom Hearts Dressing Room, and their story eventually got merged with World Refugees. It doesn't really have chapters, so I just post it whenever I have enough to consider being an update. Here is what there is so far.

The Destiny Islands was a wonderful place, the ideal vacation spot for most. Warm weather, beautiful ocean side, clear water... however, especially on the play island, it was no where near quiet.

“Axel, give it back!” a very annoyed child’s voice demanded, as two small boys darted across the beaches. The blonde boy grinned as he darted about the beaches, holding a stuffed creature above his head. The silver-haired one chasing him would have caught up with him already, being a bit faster and having longer legs, had it not been that Axel was equipped with dark portals.

As soon as the boy vanished into another dark portal, making the silver-haired boy pout unhappily, he was retrieved by a much taller, much older blonde who carried him out and handed the plush heartless to the waiting boy, mumbling, “Here you go, Kagami,” before going to lecture his son about not using dark portals until he was older.

It had been eleven years since Sora and company had returned from their journey across worlds to stop the Organization. Sora and Kairi had gotten married, as well as their Nobodies (no one was entirely sure how they had been separated- it was assumed that it was the universe thanking them for saving it). Riku had married a young woman from The Land of the Dragons, five-year-old Kagami being the result. His best friend (and occasionally sworn pirate enemy), Axel, was named after his father’s best friend (and occasionally sworn Organization enemy). Those two kept their parents hands full, as well as Sora and Kairi’s, though their daughter Anzu didn’t get into quite as much trouble as her two friends.

Kagami clung to his plush, looking up from it only when he felt a large hand on his head. Riku, now 28, was standing there with a small smile. “Come on,” he said quietly, “Let’s go see your mother.”

“Ok,” Kagami piped, reaching up to hold his father’s hand, “When does she get to come home? Can she come to my birthday?”

Riku gave his son a sad smile. “We’ll see.”

Mirua, Riku’s wife, had contracted a disease rather common among the islands- unfortunately, it seemed that different worlds had different diseases and therefore different immunities. She looked up from her hospital bed with a smile as her family walked in, Kagami rushing over to crawl up onto the bed with her. “Hi mama!” he said, giving her a hug.

She gave a little laugh, hand covering her mouth in a rather refined manner, kissing her son’s forehead. “Hello, Kagami.” She gave a little tsk as she saw the dirt on his face, wiping it off with the boy squirming. Riku chuckled slightly, leaning down to kiss the woman’s cheek.

“How are you doing?” he asked quietly.

“Fine,” she replied simply, stroking her son’s hair as he leaned against her with a thumb in his mouth. This was quite clearly a lie, but neither was about to say that with Kagami in the room and awake.

They had a bit of small talk, about Kagami’s work in preschool and the picture he made for his mom in art class (it really had no distinct shape, but the colors looked nice enough), about how the rest of their little group had been recently, until the small boy snuggled up to his mother and fell fast asleep.

Smiling at his son, Riku looked over at Mirua. She leaned back a little against the pillows, absently patting Kagami’s head. “What did the doctors say?” he asked quietly.

She gave him a sad little smile. “They don’t know how to cure it with me. Everything they’re tried with me has no affect on my immune system... they don’t think I’ll even last to his next birthday.” The young woman regarded her son sadly. “But I will. I want to be there at least until then.”

Riku kissed the top of her head sadly as Kagami stirred in his self, pressing closer to the warmth of his parents. Mirua pulled him closer, holding him tightly to her. “I will be there,” she said with a slightly stubborn voice, cradling her child.

---

Kagami’s birthday was a month later, and Mirua’s condition grew steadily worse during the time in between. She tried the best she could to not show her son she was getting weaker, but even he noticed after the weeks dragged on that she seemed more tired.

She died the day after his birthday.

Her funeral was several weeks later, and a heartbreaking affair for all. Kagami couldn’t quite understand why he couldn’t see his mother anymore and why she had to go to sleep for a long time in a box, and Riku didn’t have the heart to explain.

Kagami wandered towards his mother’s coffin, clutching his heartless plushie to him. He had had that since he was a very small child, and had developed a habit of not being able to sleep without it or he’d get nightmares. Now, he tucked it next to his mother in her coffin, telling his father to stop when he reached for it. “Momma needs it more,” he said simply, “It’s gonna be scary to sleep in a box!”

That night, Riku felt something small and with cold feet slip under the covers and curl up next to him. Kagami cuddled with his father that night as his memory of his mother would slip away with age.

---

They were seven when Axel brought home Tweak.

Normally, all their parents encouraged an interest in everything, and had told them that if they wanted they could have pets. The only problem with Tweak is that he was a baby Dusk.

Namine screamed the moment Axel entered the house with him.

Unfortunately, Axel had probably gotten the idea from Kagami. His friend had come home with a shadow heartless he dubbed Pochera, and was allowed to keep it (under the promise that it was to be kept in a warded cage and far away from Riku). So Roxas and Namine called in Riku to blame him for it and possibly talk Axel out of it.

He wasn’t much help.

“It’s actually kind of cute,” the man said when he saw Axel playing with Tweak. He got stares from Namine and Roxas, so he coughed a little and continued. “If... you like bloodsucking heartless beings, that is.”

“You’re a bad liar, Uncle Riku,” Axel piped, having heard this conversation, “Almost as bad as Kagami!”

“You really are,” Namine sighed, “What are we going to do now?”

“Keep him!” Axel interjected.

“No,” both of his parents replied.

“Absolutely not,” Roxas stated.

“Just because we used to be Nobodies doesn’t mean anyone here is immune to Dusks,” Namine sighed.

“But Kagami has a heartless!” the blonde boy frowned.

“That’s because Kagami’s dad is an idiot,” Roxas replied with a frown at Riku.

Riku frowned right back. “Hey.”

Namine crossed her arms, putting on her ‘tough mommy’ look. “Axel, there is no way you’re keeping that thing in the house. Period.”

“What about outside?”

She gave him the look and he quieted. He did not, however, think that this should stop him from using his super secret weapon- the adorable, long-suffering eyes. His mother flinched. Even tough mommies can’t combat that. He hugged the slightly wiggling Dusk to him cutely.

Looking to Roxas for help, Namine could tell the outcome of this already.

Axel ended up being able to keep Tweak, though in a cage outside with the promise that if they ever took him out he would be kept under close guard. Nothing bad ever happened, but the parents never got over the worry it caused when their children played with creatures that could destroy worlds.

---

On occasion, Riku, Roxas, and Sora would go out on a sort of ‘boys day’ which generally involved other worlds and coming home bruised. When this happened, Kagami had to stay with Namine and Axel since there was no one home to take care of him, and Kairi and Anzu would have to come over so Namine wasn’t in completely over her head.

One of these times was when Anzu first initiated adventure time.

Axel was woken rather unpleasantly one morning by the red haired girl jumping on his bed. “Axel!” she proclaimed, “Adventure! Let’s have some!” Kagami was standing by the door, rubbing his eyes sleepily. He was a heavy sleeper, so she’d gotten him up first.

The blonde rolled over, looking up at her groggily. “Anzu, what’re you talking about?”

“Adventure!” she replied, “Let’s go do something... adventurous!”

Axel pulled his sheets back over his head.

There was another lump added on top of him. “Axel, if I had to get up so do you!” Kagami had joined the fray.

“Traitor,” the boy mumbled from somewhere in his blankets.

“Up!” Anzu commanded. With another grumble, Axel reluctantly rolled out of bed.

About a half hour later (with some relief that from the mothers that Anzu would be dealing with the boys today), the little group made it over to the play island.

“So,” Kagami asked as he stifled a yawn, “What’s this adventure we’re going to have?”

“A fun one!” Anzu replied, starting off. Axel and Kagami looked at each other warily.

“What’s fun?” Axel muttered.

“Nothing, this early,” was his friend’s reply.

Anzu had vanished from sight, so the two were sorely tempted to go to sleep on the beach. They knew, however, that if they did that she would suddenly show up out of no where and lecture them. So they attempted to locate her, wondering if this was part of said adventure.

They finally found her in their parent’s ‘secret place,’ the girl scratching another picture into the walls. She had made the image of the three of them in the back part of the cave, beaming as they walked over. “I made a picture of us!” she said brightly.

“Yea...” Axel said, sitting next to her.

Kagami joined them, before asking, “Was this our adventure?”

“We’ll have a better one tomorrow,” Anzu assured them, continuing to scratch on the wall.

Both of them looked at her. “What?”

---

Namine hummed to herself as she tidied up the living room. She seemed to be almost done when she heard a loud ‘BOOM’ from the kitchen.

Hurrying it, she was slightly surprised to see that her son wasn’t in there. Instead, it was Roxas and Sora. Both looked instantly sheepish the second she walked in, so she gave them her best suspicious frown and crossed her arms.

“Hi, honey,” Roxas said weakly. Sora waved a little.

“What was that?” she asked, not dissuaded.

“Nothing,” they said unison. Namine wasn’t about to believe them, especially when she glanced over and saw something in the microwave. She pointed at it.

“What were you trying to blow up?” she asked with a sigh, slightly bothered by the fact that this seemed normal.

“Grapes,” Sora replied before Roxas elbowed him in the side.

“Grapes don’t explode,” Namine replied.

“Well, they apparently do when you add lightening spells...” her husband muttered, rubbing the back of his head. He winced when her gaze turned to him.

The woman sighed, rubbing her temples. “And why would you do that?”

“We wanted to see what would happen...?” Sora tried.

Namine just gave them both a look before striding over to the phone. “I’m calling Kairi,” she muttered, “No wonder the kids get themselves into so much trouble...”

A little while later (after scolding from respective wives and inquisitions from children on if the grapes really blew up and if they could try it), Sora came over and plopped down next to his former Nobody on the sofa. “So,” he asked, “How much trouble did you get into?”

“Well,” the blonde sighed, “I had to clean up the kitchen, not just the microwave, and anything that was out of place in the rest of the house, and then I had to give her a foot rub before I was forgiven.”

Sora gave a sheepish grin. “Well, it wasn’t our kitchen so Kairi didn’t care quite as much.” Roxas shook his head a little, looking over at him. The brunette looked back, before grinning. “Wanna try mentos dropped in coke next?”

“Sure. Your house this time.”

---

When Axel and Anzu decided they were going to bake their mothers cakes for Mother’s Day, Kagami raised his hands and said they could count him out. They figured that it was because he didn’t have a mom, but they realized later that it might have had something to do with the fact that he knew how to cook a bit and knew that they didn’t.

“So, what first?” Axel said as they looked cluelessly at the recipe in front of them.

“Um...” Anzu picked up the measuring cup, “We need flour.”

“Ok.” Not appearing to realize that you only need a certain amount, Axel dumped some of it in the bowl.

Anzu read the recipe again. “It says two cups.”

“Oh. Is that two cups?”

“I dunno. It looks like two cups.”

They decided that it was, in fact, two cups and went on.

“Sugar now,” Anzu said, pouring a cup in.

“What do we do with the eggs?” Axel asked, eyeing them, “Do we just throw them in?”

“Well...” The girl considered this. “When I watch mom, she normally breaks them first. But it doesn’t say anything in here...”

“I think we should break them,” the blonde boy replied, making a face, “Who would want egg shells in cake?”

After making a thorough mess in the kitchen, the two put their... cake in the oven to bake. Then they decided to go play outside for a bit while they waited. However, they forgot to bring a timer.

A yell from Kairi alerted them to a problem, and they rushed back inside in time to see Sora putting out a fire with a water spell. Both parents looked at the kids as they entered the room.

This ended in the two of them being grounded. It did not end in them learning their lesson, because as soon as they weren’t grounded they went over to Axel’s house to try it again.

---

Sometimes Sora liked to take the group’s gummi ship out for a ride to visit friends on other worlds or just for the sake of it. No one really minded this and most of the time told him to say hi to people, but he had always had a little trouble with his landing. Normally he managed to land with some form of grace, but not today.

Today he landed in the front yard as Riku and Roxas watched.

He landed with a rather large crash as well. Kairi and Anzu were outside in a matter of seconds. “What did you do,” Kairi asked, narrowing her eyes as soon as her wobbling husband emerged.

As could have been imagined, this conversation ended rather badly and with Sora (after moving the gummi ship) replanting the front lawn with Roxas supervising.

“You know, you could help,” the brunette muttered as his ex-Nobody watched from the porch with a glass of lemonade.

“I am helping,” he replied casually.

Sora frowned. “You’re just sitting that.”

“That’s helping in Duskish.”

“Duskish?”

“Yea.” Roxas shrugged. “How do you think Dusk communicate?”

“Uh... I dunno. I kinda always thought they were telepathic or something,” Sora replied.

“Nope. It’s Duskish.”

“Ok, so. How do you say ‘Roxas is full of bs’ in Duskish?”

“Sora is a gullible moron.”

He was frowned at again. “That’s not very nice, Rox.”

“Hey,” the blonde shrugged, “It’s your fault.”

Sora’s shoulders hunched. “It was Donald’s fault. He was driving.”

“Donald was on a date with Daisy.”

“Goofy’s fault.”

“On a roadtrip with Max.”

“Chip and Dale.”

“They can’t reach the controls.”

“...Axel’s fault?”

“If you had my son in there I’m going to kill you. And no, before you say anything, it wasn’t my fault because I was standing in the yard and saw you crash. And it wasn’t Riku’s fault because he was with me.”

Sora slumped again, resuming his new chore. Roxas smirked, leaning back in his chair.

“...Kagami’s fault?”

“Don’t even start.”
